Guiberson and published by Henry Holt, are new to the\u00a0NCLC and were deposited\u00a0following his recent appearance at the 19th Annual <a title=\"CT Children's Book Fair\" href=\"http:\/\/bookfair.uconn.edu\" target=\"_blank\">Connecticut Children&#8217;s Book Fair<\/a>.\u00a0\u00a0<em>Moon Bear <\/em>is the story of one moon bear, or Asiatic black bear, as she goes through the annual cycle of hibernation, awakening, foraging, and procreation.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0In the author&#8217;s note,\u00a0Ms. Guiberson describes\u00a0the tragic plight of thousands of Asiatic black bears who are imprisoned in tiny cages\u00a0on bear farms throughout Asia.\u00a0\u00a0For over 3,000 years bears were hunted in Asia for their gall bladders and bile, thought to cure disease.\u00a0 Laws enacted in the 1980&#8217;s took steps to ban bear hunting but wild bears are still caught and farmed.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_1449\" style=\"width: 310px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><a href=\"http:\/\/doddcenter.files.wordpress.com\/2010\/12\/young-moon-bear-pg-6-78.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-1449\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-1449\" src=\"http:\/\/doddcenter.files.wordpress.com\/2010\/12\/young-moon-bear-pg-6-78.jpg?w=300\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"208\" srcset=\"https:\/\/blogs-dev.lib.uconn.edu\/archives\/files\/2010\/12\/young-moon-bear-pg-6-78.jpg 1235w, https:\/\/blogs-dev.lib.uconn.edu\/archives\/files\/2010\/12\/young-moon-bear-pg-6-78-300x208.jpg 300w, https:\/\/blogs-dev.lib.uconn.edu\/archives\/files\/2010\/12\/young-moon-bear-pg-6-78-1024x712.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/blogs-dev.lib.uconn.edu\/archives\/files\/2010\/12\/young-moon-bear-pg-6-78-431x300.jpg 431w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a><p id=\"caption-attachment-1449\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Moon Bear (pg. 6\/7 illustration)<\/p><\/div>\n<p>Several organizations are working to create sanctuaries where sick bears can be\u00a0treated and rehabilitated,\u00a0such as Animals Asia Moon Bear Rescue Center in China.\u00a0 For more information, go to\u00a0\ufeff\ufeff\ufeff\ufeff<a href=\"http:\/\/www.animalsasia.org\">http:\/\/www.animalsasia.org<\/a>.\u00a0 A portion of the proceeds of each book is donated to this worthwhile organization devoted to ending animal cruelty and restoring respect for animals throughout Asia.\u00a0\u00a0Mr. Young says in his dedication:\u00a0 &#8220;To Integrity, &#8216;the Spiritual Bear,&#8217; so that we may reclaim green humanity lost to unharnessed &#8216;wants&#8217; disguised as our needs.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Terri J.
