The data is gathered from national sources by <a href=\"http:\/\/www.unodc.org\/\">the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime<\/a>\u00a0and can be <a href=\"http:\/\/www.unodc.org\/unodc\/en\/data-and-analysis\/homicide.html\">found here<\/a>. A handful of countries in South America and Africa show the highest rates while most of Europe, China, Australia, and Canada, among others, show the lowest rates.
