We depend on many species to pollinate our crops so that we have a dependable food resource. \u00a0Unfortunately\u00a0many species of pollinators are at risk including:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/www.nbii.gov\/portal\/server.pt\/community\/butterflies_and_moths\/856\">Butterflies<\/a><\/li>\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/www.nbii.gov\/portal\/server.pt\/community\/butterflies_and_moths\/856\">Moths<\/a><\/li>\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/www.nbii.gov\/portal\/server.pt\/community\/vertebrates\/854\">Birds<\/a><\/li>\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/www.nbii.gov\/portal\/server.pt\/community\/vertebrates\/854\">And Bats<\/a><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>I first learned about National Pollinator Week from a <a href=\"http:\/\/www.usgs.gov\/newsroom\/article.asp?ID=2526&amp;from=rss&amp;utm_source=feedburner&amp;utm_medium=feed&amp;utm_campaign=Feed:+UsgsNewsroom+(USGS+Newsroom)\">USGS news post<\/a> and found some interesting links. \u00a0A few of these include a few podcasts (<a href=\"http:\/\/www.usgs.gov\/corecast\/details.asp?ep=100\">Bees Are Not Optional<\/a>,\u00a0<span style=\"font-family: Verdana, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;font-size: small\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.usgs.gov\/podcasts\/pollinators\/20080625_3_ClimateChange.mp3\">Pollinators, Phenology, and Climate Change<\/a><\/span>) that interview scientists who research pollinating species. \u00a0One of the most interesting was a link to <a href=\"http:\/\/www.butterfliesandmoths.org\/\">Butterflies and Moths of North America<\/a>. \u00a0This site has a distribution map that allows you to first find an area of interest, then see lists of species found in that area. \u00a0Below is an example of a species that is found in Connecticut.<\/p>\n<p>   <\/p>\n<p>Your browser does not support iframes.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n<p>For more information on National Pollinator Week 2010 and to see what activities may be happening in your neighborhood please visit\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.pollinator.org\/\">http:\/\/www.pollinator.org\/<\/a><\/p>\n<!-- AddThis Advanced Settings generic via filter on the_content --><!-- AddThis Share Buttons generic via filter on the_content -->","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>It&#8217;s National Pollinator Week 2010!
